Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kenya

About Korea

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Kenya was established in 1964 following the diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Since then the Embassy has been serving diplomatic and consular functions in Kenya. In early stage, the Jurisdiction of the Embassy covered various countries such Uganda, Mauritius, Comoro, Seychelle, Somalia and Eritrea. Currently the Embassy serves diplomatic missions for Kenya and Somalia.

With the strengthening of bilateral relations between Korea and Kenya to a broader array of cooperation areas such as trade and investment, industry, science and technology, health, e-Government, agriculture, development and cultural area, the role of the Embassy has also been strengthened. Our consular section has been working closely with the people of Kenya and Somalia when they wish to visit Korea or for any consular-related matters.

Other than the Consular services, the Embassy has and is committed to opening doors for the citizens of the Republic of Kenya and Federal Republic of Somalia to experience Korea's culture, education, and the Korean language. A fully supported Global Korea Scholarships by the Korean government is granted to deserving/qualified Kenyan and Somali students every year. TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) exams are held twice per year in Kenya, to test the level of proficiency in Korean language. Additionally, the Embassy hosts a reception to celebrate the Korean National Foundation Day, which is marked on the 3rd of October every year.. (This year's event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic). As such, the month of October is celebrated as a Korean cultural period by the Embassy.

The Embassy will continue to make an effort to contribute to the friendly relationship between Korea and Kenya, and Korea and Somalia. The Korean Embassy will always remain as a close friend by reaching out to the public through various channels and avail support, especially during this challenging pandemic period.
